Frequently Asked Questions
What is EMDR ...exactly?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.
What are EMDR sessions like?
There are eight phases within EMDR. Phases three - six are where healing occurs. We will work together through specific memories, negative beliefs, and emotional focus while engaging in sets of bilateral stimulation such as eye movements or repeated gentle taps; and possibly some audio. During these sessions, negative sensations are effectively transformed into positive and empowering feelings and thoughts.
How do I know if EMDR will work for me?
EMDR may be an appropriate therapy for anyone who has suffered any kind of accident, trauma, abuse, or tragic event that is causing emotional distress.
